Our story

The little clinic with a big heart

For all of us at The Strand Veterinarian, our ambition is to create a care environment acceptable to the most discerning of clientele, our own precious four-legged familiars. A place to be nurtured and healed – a place where intuitively they feel the heart behind our service, trusting us to look after their best interests when it comes to their health.

When we talk about ‘heart’, for us that means a high standard of customer care, a commitment to increasing the skills and knowledge of our extraordinary team, and the creation of a space where love, respect and understanding of our client’s special relationship with their animal companion takes place.

"Animals are magic in our lives...
...they are tangible manifestations of love – they are the bringers of joy and happiness. What could be more important than that?”

Local vets for local pets

If you are a community minded Auckland pet owner looking for a Central City vet who is a locally owned and operated business, then you have come to the right place.

Our sustainable business model, including wellbeing for our team first and looking after local pet industry businesses and suppliers, means we look after your pets and planet with ‘heart’ or ‘aroha’.

Something you may not realise is a growing number of New Zealand veterinary clinics are now owned by corporates, often with overseas owners. While there is nothing wrong with this, it is always good to make an informed choice. Love local…then love us as an independent and New Zealand owned veterinary clinic.

Sustainable business

As proud members of the Sustainable Business Network, reducing our impact on the environment is something as a locally owned and independent veterinary hospital we strive for.

We limit our plastic use by swapping to compostable alternatives where we can, utilising the soft plastic recycling scheme, and compostable courier bags and dog waste bags. We are using recycled paper to print when needed, although all our invoices and clinical notes are emailed out as we strive to lead our clients to paperless information transfer.

We proudly support NZ businesses especially those who have great initiatives such as compostable treat packaging, eco-friendly cleaning products and bamboo toothbrushes. We use rechargeable batteries and are driving a Terracycle initiative to recycle our used PPE equipment.

We are a team of likeminded eco-friendly individuals who are always looking for ways to improve veterinary practice sustainability.
